How your collection day works

From Geebung depot
to Bribie Island.

Bribie Island is the only Queensland island connected to the mainland by a bridge — which means no ferry is needed. Collect from our Geebung depot and you can be driving on the northern beaches in under two hours.

  • From 8:00am
    Collect from Geebung depot
91 Basalt Street, Geebung — close to Brisbane Airport. Collect your vehicle and complete your complimentary 4WD training and safety briefing before departure.
  • ~1 hour
Drive north to Bribie Island Bridge
Head north via the Bruce Highway — approximately 1 hour from Geebung to the Bribie Island Bridge at Bongaree. The bridge is the only vehicle access point to the island.
  • On the island
    Deflate tyres & head north
Once on the island, deflate your tyres to the recommended pressure for sand driving — we'll show you exactly how at the briefing. From Woorim, the northern beach tracks begin a short drive away.
  • All day / multi-day
    Explore the northern beaches
Drive along the beach, find a remote campsite, fish off the sand or just explore. The northern tip of the island is only accessible by 4WD and is genuinely wild — no crowds, no sealed roads.
  • Before returning
    Re-inflate tyres
Before driving back over the bridge, re-inflate your tyres to road pressure using the air compressor included with your vehicle. We'll cover this in your pre-departure briefing.
  • Return day
    Drive back to Geebung
Drive back south via the Bruce Highway and return your vehicle to the Geebung depot. A quick underbody rinse after beach driving is appreciated before handback.
💡
No ferry. No booking. Just drive.

Unlike Fraser Island and Moreton Island, Bribie Island is connected to the mainland by a bridge — which means there are no ferry tickets to organise, no ferry schedules to work around, and no vehicle ferry costs. Collect from Geebung, drive north, cross the bridge and you're there. It's the simplest island 4WD experience in South East Queensland.

What to do on Bribie Island

Wild beaches. No crowds.
Just a short drive from Brisbane.

Bribie Island is one of South East Queensland's best-kept secrets. The southern end has shops, cafés and sealed roads — but head north in your 4WD and you'll find deserted beaches that stretch for kilometres.

Northern Beaches

The northern tip of Bribie Island is only accessible by 4WD — remote, unspoiled beaches with no crowds and spectacular ocean views. The further north you go, the wilder it gets.

Fishing

Bribie Island is renowned for its fishing — tailor, whiting, flathead and bream are all common. The northern beaches give you access to spots that foot traffic simply can't reach.

Beach Camping

Camp right on the beach at one of Bribie's designated camping areas — wake up to the sound of the ocean with no one else for kilometres. Our rooftop tent makes the setup effortless.

National Park & Wildlife

Most of Bribie Island is national park — wallabies, diverse birdlife and a spectacular stretch of undeveloped coastline. A 4WD is the only way to access the most remote parts of the park.

Sunsets & Sunrises

Bribie's western beaches face directly into Pumicestone Passage — famous for its stunning sunsets. The eastern ocean beaches catch the sunrise. Camp overnight and experience both.

Pumicestone Passage

The calm sheltered waterway between Bribie Island and the mainland is perfect for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and birdwatching — a complete contrast to the wild ocean side.

Driving on Bribie Island

Road rules, beach safety
& the environment.

Most of Bribie Island is national park. The same road rules that apply on the mainland apply here — and the island's ecosystem is fragile. Please follow these guidelines.

🚗 Speed limits

Maximum 80 km/h on the beach at low tide. 40 km/h around campgrounds and day-use areas. Standard road rules apply throughout the island.

🌊 Tide awareness

Always drive on the beach at low tide when hard sand is exposed. High tide driving is dangerous and can result in vehicles being swamped. We provide tide info at collection.

🛤 Designated tracks only

Stay on designated beach and 4WD tracks at all times. Driving off-track destroys fragile coastal vegetation and dune systems and can result in significant fines.

🦘 Watch for wildlife

Wallabies, shore birds and marine life are all present. Reduce speed near vegetation edges and never drive on nesting areas or disturb wildlife.

🗑 Leave no trace

Take all rubbish with you when you leave. Bribie Island is a national park — please leave it exactly as you found it for the next visitor.

🔧 Tyre pressures

Deflate tyres to the recommended sand pressure before beach driving — we cover this in your briefing. Re-inflate before driving on sealed roads on the return journey.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need 4WD or sand driving experience for Bribie Island?
No prior experience is needed. Every booking includes complimentary 4WD training at our Geebung depot before departure. We cover tyre deflation and inflation, sand driving technique, recovery procedures and Bribie Island's specific conditions. Depending on your experience level and questions, the briefing takes 5–30 minutes.
Do I need a ferry ticket to get to Bribie Island?
No — Bribie Island is the only Queensland island connected to the mainland by a bridge, so there are no ferry tickets to buy, no ferry schedules to plan around and no vehicle ferry costs. Drive north on the Bruce Highway, cross the bridge and you're there. It's the simplest island 4WD destination in South East Queensland.
How long is the drive from Geebung to Bribie Island?
Approximately 1 hour from our Geebung depot (91 Basalt Street) to the Bribie Island Bridge at Bongaree via the Bruce Highway. From the bridge it's a further short drive to Woorim and the northern beach access tracks. You can realistically be driving on the beach within 90 minutes of collecting your vehicle.
Do I need a permit to drive on Bribie Island beach?
Yes — a Queensland National Parks permit is required for beach driving and camping in designated areas on Bribie Island. Check the current requirements and purchase your permit at parks.des.qld.gov.au before your trip. We can advise on this when you book.
What is the $120 night-before option?
For $120 you can collect your 4WD the evening before your trip. Take it home, pack everything at your own pace and leave early the next morning for Bribie Island — giving you more time on the northern beaches, especially useful around early low tides. Ask about this option when you book.
